As the Service Unit Liaison, you're the troop's eyes and ears at the monthly Service Unit leader meetings. These meetings are where you'll hear about upcoming council and regional events, important deadlines (especially around cookie season and year-end), training opportunities, and changes to policies or procedures. You attend, take notes, and report back to the troop leader and committee so nobody misses anything important.
This role does not require any specific Girl Scout training beyond the basics every family completes. (A background check is recommended since you'll be representing the troop.) You'll learn what you need by simply attending the meetings.
Service Unit meetings are typically held once a month and last about an hour. Your troop leader can tell you the day, time, and location for your area.
Not every event or deadline gets posted to Facebook or the council website. The SU meeting is often where you hear about things first -- that's what makes this role so valuable.
A simple email or group chat message after each meeting summarizing what you learned is all the troop needs from you. Bullet points are fine -- no one needs a formal report.
This role pairs naturally with any other role. If the Events Manager or Cookie Manager also attends the SU meetings, even better -- but having a dedicated liaison means that the troop is covered even when other committee members can't make it.
You'll get to know leaders from other troops in your area, which is a great resource for sharing ideas, coordinating joint events, and getting advice from people who've been doing this longer.
